April Bloomfield, one of the food industry’s hottest chefs — in the upper echelon alongside Mario Batali, David Chang, and the legendary Fergus Henderson — is behind The Spotted Pig, one of the hottest gastropubs in the West Village.
Per Michelin: “Laid-back servers may look like hipster grad students, but are deeply knowledgeable and committed to their work. They eagerly rhapsodize on any of Chef Bloomfield’s favorites, like the moist, meaty, and deliciously crisp pork belly in an aromatic broth brimming with baby turnips, onions, and Swiss chard. Meals may move on to other savory delights, but a wonderfully rich banoffee pie made from roasted bananas, cloaked by whipped cream, and served atop a crumbled biscuit base delivers a perfect smack of sweet for the end.”
If you brunch, be sure to scarf down their shoestring fries – total yum! Classics like eggs and french toasts are given a special twist only the Spotted Pig can do. Your hardest choice to make here though, won’t be the food to eat – it’ll be the wine you drink! A beyond-impressive list of reds and whites will give you something to ponder over while you wait for a dinner table – and you will wait. Unless you choose to eat at the bar, which is highly recommended by the restaurant itself.
So, next time you find yourself in the village, give the hostess your name and number to call you when a table opens up. For this ten-time Michelin star winner, it’s worth it.
